Outdoor RV storage facility denied on 11.63-acre rural site

KM Engineering sought a 56-space outdoor-only storage lot for RVs and other vehicles, keeping the existing home for an office. The Ada County Planning and Zoning Commission denied it on July 17 after staff cited landscaping, screening and parking shortfalls, and the City of Star and 110 letters opposed it.

KM Engineering proposes an outdoor-only self-service storage facility for RVs and other vehicles on an 11.63-acre property at 9800 W Beacon Light Rd in Star. The site would have 56 storage spaces, using about 20% of the lot, and the existing single-family home would stay and partly serve as an office for the facility. Staff recommends denial because the landscaping, screening, and parking do not meet county code, the City of Star objects, and 110 letters of opposition were received.
