Nampa Waterworks gets variance to skip parking landscape islands

The City of Nampa is asking for a variance from the city rule requiring landscaped planter islands inside the parking lot at its Waterworks facility at 24 1st St S. The planters would have made it harder for large trucks and semis to maneuver on the site, which is used as a laydown yard, while the building is remodeled and expanded. Staff recommends that the City Council approve the variance.

The City of Nampa Waterworks building will be undergoing a remodel and addition with minor site improvements such as landscaping near the building, sidewalks, and parking. A variance is requested to eliminate the requirement of landscape parking islands. The site is an industrial use lay-down yard with regular vehicular traffic, often including semi-trucks, and parking islands would make the site less maneuverable.
