Nine industrial wastewater evaporation ponds approved for existing four-pond facility

Simco Environmental won conditional approval to build nine ponds in three phases on about 80 acres of a 160-acre site. The permit takes effect only after a development mitigation agreement is signed with the county, and it requires bird deterrents and odor controls.

Simco Environmental proposes to add three industrial wastewater evaporation ponds to four existing ponds on a 160-acre site in unincorporated Elmore County, and possibly to treat the leftover sludge on the land. The ponds would take in grease trap waste, storm water and other non-hazardous wastewater, and the applicant also describes two later phases with six more ponds on about 74 acres. This document is a staff report for a Planning and Zoning Commission workshop, not a decision.
