Nampa confirms rear house can stay as second dwelling

The city approved a request to keep using a 1935 building behind an existing house as a second home, a use it says has existed for decades despite current zoning. A draft code change would let such a building be rebuilt as it was if destroyed.

The city confirmed that a second residential building at the rear of 415 S Ivy St in Nampa, built in 1935, is a legal existing use that can continue even though current zoning would not normally allow it. The residential use was confirmed in Polk Directory listings from 1970, 1975, and 1979. The letter also describes a draft city code change that would allow such a building to be rebuilt as it existed if it were destroyed by fire, flood, or other qualifying events, subject to current building codes.

To continue the use of the structure in the rear of the single-parcel property as a second dwelling unit, as it has been used historically.
