Blue Beacon Inc is asking for a variance to allow a 60-foot freestanding pole sign for a truck wash under construction at 206 Shannon Drive in Nampa, on a 3.84-acre site near Interstate 84. City code limits this type of sign to 40 feet. Staff recommends that the City Council approve the variance.

Blue Beacon, Inc. Variance for freestanding sign height. This Blue Beacon Truck Wash site is about 30’ below the adjacent interstate roadway grade. The sign base of the proposed high‐rise sign will be approximately 26’ below the I‐84 roadway edge of pavement. If limited to a 40’ height, the sign would only have 12’ of visibility from the highway. With this height, visibility of the sign would be severely limited. This would potentially lose Blue Beacon customers and could cause traffic issues for trucks choosing to exit “at the last minute” when the sign becomes visible.
